Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Reno Aces hit five home runs, including three homers by shortstop Chris Owings, to beat the Fresno Grizzlies 7-4 on Tuesday at Chukchansi Park.
Grizzlies starting pitcher Mitch Lively endured all the damage inflicted by the Reno offense as he surrendered each of the five home runs. Owings had a two-run home run in each of the first and third innings. After Tyler Bortnick hit a solo blast in the fourth, Owings and Brad Snyder hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to make it 7-2.
The loss was Lively's third consecutive defeat. The right-hander struck out six and walked two in five innings.
The five home runs allowed by Lively matched the Grizzlies' franchise record for most homers allowed in a single game, tying Steve Hammond, who set the mark in 2009.
Chris Dominguez and Brett Pill each hit a solo home run for the Fresno offense. It was the second straight night Dominguez and Pill homered in the same game and fourth time overall this season. Dominguez's roundtripper occurred in the third inning while Pill took one well out of Chukchansi Park in the sixth.
Pill had an RBI single in the fourth to give him two RBIs on the night and 68 RBIs this season with Fresno. Tuesday was also Pill's fourth straight multi-hit game.
The Grizzlies bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 22 innings. Brett Bochy and Mason Tobin each contributed a perfect inning while Fabio Castillo threw two shutout frames.
Gary Brown tallied his PCL-best 15th outfield assist in the seventh. Offensively, the center fielder reached base safely three times with two singles and a walk.
Jackson Williams drove in a run with an infield single in the sixth to plate Roger Kieschnick.
Reno starting pitcher Garrett Mock allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Chaz Roe allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth to tally his fifth save.
Fresno and Reno will wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The pitching matchup features Fresno's Chris Heston against Reno's Matt Wright.
