Tucson Padres News Release
Tucson native Stefen Romero accounted for six of Tacoma's seven runs, while James Paxton went the distance for a complete game shutout to defeat the Tucson Padres 7-0 Monday at Kino Stadium.
The Rainiers jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first on Romero's RBI single to center. Tacoma added two runs in the fourth, including an RBI groundout by Robert Andino to bring home Romero from third. The Pima College and Sunnyside High School product later launched a grand slam into the left field bullpen to extend the Rainiers lead to seven runs in the seventh. Romero finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBIs.
Paxton earned his sixth win of the season, while scattering five hits and two walks. It was the first shutout of his professional career. The left-hander allowed only one Padre to reach third base in the game. Matt Andriese was charged with his first loss after surrendering three runs on eight hits in six innings. Tucson's Kalian Sams went 3-for-3 and Gregorio Petit's hitting streak continued to ten games with a single in the second.
