ST. CHARLES, MO--The Motor City Mechanics stretch their Central Division to three points after a defensive show was displayed by both the Mechanics and goaltender, Rod Branch in front of 1,728 fans at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

The Mechanics and Missouri River Otters played to a scoreless first period. Mechanics goaltender, Rod Branch made 16 saves on 16 shots while the Mechanics tallied 10 shots. Both teams were blanked with the extra man as the Mechanics went 0 for 3 and the Otters were 0 for 2 on the power play.

Neither the Mechanics nor River Otters would bend in the second period, as both teams remained scoreless in the tight defensive battle. The River Otters, however, would take control shot wise with 14 shots to just seven Mechanics shots for a two period total of 30 to just 17 for the Mechanics.

Both Goaltenders stood on their heads throughout the game and would make game saving plays until the final horn sounded. Branch saved one late in the second period when he faced a two on none after a turnover in the Mechanics zone and made several game saving plays in the third. After the final horn sounded, Branch and the defense shined as collectively they faced and stopped 39 shots. Rookie, Missouri goaltender, Brendan Cuthbert played well and faced only 25 shots and after the final horn sounded in the third, it was a scoreless tie.

In the shootout the Mechanics would take charge of the game and outscore the River Otters 3-1 to take the 1-0 win. Konstantin Kalmikov, Adam Edinger and Matt Smith all scored in the shootout improving the Mechanics record to 4-2-1, good for nine points and still remain in first place in the Central Division.
