November 2, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.-The Rockford IceHogs and Kalamazoo Wings began Wednesday night unbeaten, and one would leave with a loss. It was Kalamazoo as the Hogs topped the Wings 3-2 at the Rockford MetroCentre in a rematch of last season's First Round Colonial Cup Playoff series. Rockford set a club record for longest winning streak, which now stands at seven.
Rockford grabbed the early 1-0 lead on the power play when defenseman Corey Hessler fired in his second tally of the season at 4:41. It didn't take long for Kalamazoo to tie it however. On a power play of their own, winger Jason Deitsch was set up perfectly by Tim Turner to put the Wings on the board at 9:48.
In the second period, The IceHogs scored a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Rookie winger Robin Big Snake sniped home his fifth goal of the season at 13:05 before center Preston Mizzi shot in his league leading 10th marker of the season past Wings goalie Jeff Reynaert. Mizzi now has a goal in five straight games, tying a club record.
The Wings made things interesting in the third period. Winger Joe Seroski netted his fourth goal of the season at 17:26 to cut the IceHogs lead down to 3-2. That is as close as Kalamazoo would get, as Hogs goalie Michel Robinson made a few keys saves in the final minutes to preserve the win.
Robinson made 29 saves to pick up his third win of the campaign while Reynaert turned away 34 shots in the loss. The Hogs finished the night 2-for-7 on the power play while holding the Wings to 1-for-6 on the advantage.
Next Home Game: Friday, November 11 vs. Flint Generals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Rockford returns home to face off against the Generals. The first 2,000 fans to the game will receive a "Support Our Troops" wristband in honor of Veterans Day. Call (815) 968-5222 for tickets.
