McPherson to Take Part in Triple-A Home Run Derby

July 9, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Albuquerque Isotopes slugger Dallas McPherson, the man who leads professional baseball in home runs with 31, will take his cuts in the annual Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby, taking place in Louisville, Kentucky as part of Triple-A All-Star festivities on Monday, July 14th at 5:05 PM MT.

In addition to leading every other professional baseball player in North America, McPherson's 31 dingers on the year is a career-high and is just three shy of a franchise record for homers in an entire season. Last month, McPherson slugged homers in seven straight games, tying a PCL and Minor League Baseball mark.

McPherson is one of three Pacific Coast League hitters, including Salt Lake infielder Matt Brown and Omaha infielder Jason Smith, each with 18 dingers on the year, who will take on three of their International League counterparts in the annual Triple-A Derby. Swinging for the IL will be Toledo's Mike Hessman, who took part in last year's Home Run Derby at Isotopes Park and is second to McPherson in Minor League Baseball with 28 homers, as well as a pair of Pawtucket Red Sox, outfielders Jeff Bailey and Jonathan Van Every, who have 23 homers and 22, respectively.

After a quick four game trip to Oklahoma, the ‘Topes return home this Friday for a homestand chock-full of giveaways. The fun kicks off with an Isotopes Baseball giveaway before the perennial fan-favorite Orbit Bobblehead giveaway on Saturday, July 12. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800.
