July 9, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific Coast League and Portland Beavers announced today that right-handed pitcher Edwin Moreno has been named to the PCL All-Star team and will participate in the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Game that will be held in Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday, July 16.
Moreno, 27, is 4-1 with a 3.81 ERA (11er, 26.0ip), 26 strikeouts and eight saves in 23 relief appearances with the Beavers. The right-hander started the season with Class AA San Antonio, going 0-2 with a 2.95 ERA and eight saves in 15 appearances before being transferred to Portland on May 8. Moreno recently compiled a string of 13 consecutive scoreless appearances, June 7-July 6, allowing just five hits and going 3-0 with seven saves in that span (13.0ip).
Moreno replaces first baseman Brian Myrow, who was recalled by San Diego on Tuesday, as Portland's representative in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Moreno becomes the seventh Portland pitcher named to the PCL team since the club's return to the league in 2001.
