Salt Lake Bees News Release
Salt Lake City (July 9, 2008) -- The Salt Lake Bees are participating in Minor League Baseball's effort to aid Iowans affected by floods in the Midwest this summer. MiLB teams located in cities devastated by flooding include the Burlington Bees, Cedar Rapids Kernels, Iowa Cubs and Quad Cities River Bandits.
The Salt Lake Bees will donate fifty cents to relief efforts from each ticket sold to the July 13 game at Franklin Covey Field. This includes walk up ticket sales, pre-game sales and season tickets sales. Other MiLB teams have been asked to do the same by the league.
"Minor League Baseball clubs have a long-standing camaraderie that brings them together in times of need," said Randy Rigby, president and COO of Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment. "We at the Bees feel strongly about supporting the cities and clubs affected by the flooding in the Midwest and are eager to contribute to the relief effort."
The Iowa Cubs are in the Pacific Coast League with the Salt Lake Bees, the Cedar Rapids Kernels are a Class-A affiliate of the Angels and the Burlington Bees gave rights to the Salt Lake Bees to use the same name.
Minor League Baseball has contributed $50,000 to Minor League Baseball Charities to kick off the effort amongst participating teams. MiLB will tally up the amount raised by participating teams, add it to the $50,000 and then distribute it accordingly amongst the four cities of Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Davenport (Quad Cities).
"With such direct connections to so many of the Iowa teams, we feel it is important to support them in any way we can," said Bees General Manager, Marc Amicone. "We open our hearts to the cities and individuals affected by this devastation and wish them the very best."
Minor League Baseball Charities is a separate tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with MiLB and donations qualify as tax deductible.
The Salt Lake Bees continue an 11-game home stand tonight against the Tacoma Rainiers at 7:05 p.m. at Franklin Covey Field. For more information about Bees season tickets, which start as low as $7 per game, please call 325-BEES.
