July 9, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Las Vegas, NV - John Lindsey drove in three runs, Mitch Jones drove in two and four other Las Vegas players chipped in a RBI each as the 51's beat the Sidewinders 9-4 on Tuesday night. Las Vegas has won the first two games in the series and five of six against the Sidewinders at Cashman Field this season.

The Sidewinders had a starter knocked out early for the second consecutive night as Esmerling Vasquez lasted just 3.1 innings. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Tucson took an early 2-0 lead on Jamie D'Antona's two run home run off Jason Schmidt in the first but it was almost all Las Vegas from there. The 51's scored twice in their half of the first on Terry Tiffee's RBI single and Lindsey's sacrifice fly, and added six runs in the fourth. Xavier Paul, Ramon Martinez, John-Ford Griffin and Lindsey all had RBI in that inning to chase Vasquez and Mitch Jones added a two run double.

Schmidt, on a rehab assignment, threw four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked one, struck out two and threw 59 pitches, 36 of which were strikes.

Jason Johnson worked the final five innings for his league leading 11th win of the season.

The Sidewinders and 51's play game three of their series on Wednesday night at Cashman Field. Right-hander A.J. Shappi (1-2, 4.94) starts for Tucson against right-hander Jon Meloan (4-8, 4.93) for Las Vegas. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
