
McGauley Leads Grizzlies to 4-3 Wednesday Win

West Valley City, Utah - Tim McGauley scored 2 goals and Cole Ully and Caleb Herbert each had 2 assists to lead the Utah Grizzlies to a 4-3 victory over the Indy Fuel on Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
Utah took 17 shots in the first period against Indy and 44 for the game as they outshot the Fuel 44 to 27. The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead on a Jake Marchment power play goal. Utah is the number 1 power play in the league.
Indy tied up the game 29 seconds into the 2nd period as Josh Shalla on the power play.
After that it was the Tim McGauley show for Utah. McGauley scored 1:39 into the 2nd period to give Utah a 2-1 lead. McGauley gave Utah a 3-1 lead 7:41 into the period on a great pass from Austin Carroll. Turner Ottenbreit scored his first Grizzlies goal 9:01 into the period to give Utah a 4-1 lead.
Indy scored 2 straight goals, 1 late in the 2nd period by Connor Moynihan and a goal by Kevin Defour 56 seconds into the 3rd period to cut the Grizzlies lead to 4-3.
Utah killed 3 penalties early in the period and did a good job clearing the puck. Tim McGauley got a penalty shot attempt 3:26 into the 3rd period. Going for the hat trick, McGauley's shot was saved by Fuel goaltender Matt Tomkins. Utah held on to the 4-3 lead on some big saves from Kevin Carr, who stopped 24 of 27 shots to earn the victory. Carr is now 4-0-1 on the season.
The Grizzlies now have earned standings points in 11 of 12 games this season and go to 4-0-1 at Maverik Center this year.
The 2nd game of the 3 game series is Friday night at Maverik Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Grizzlies notes: Jake Marchment has 5 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games. Caleb Herbert was reassigned to the Utah Grizzlies after playing 2 games with the AHL's Colorado Eagles. Herbert had 2 assists tonight, meaning that Herbert has 11 goals and 9 assists in 11 games for Utah.
