WORCESTER, MA - Conor Riley tied the game with 90 seconds remaining as Adirondack came back to earn a point in a 2-1 (SO) loss to the Worcester Railers at DCU Center Thursday evening.
After a scoreless first period, the Railers got on the board first when Woody Hudson redirected a shot in front of the net that got up and over Thunder goalie Cam Johnson. Worcester captain Mike Cornell flipped in a shot from the right point and the traffic in front didn't allow Johnson a lane to see it. Hudson's deflection was his third score of the year to give Worcester a 1-0 lead at 9:00 of the second period.
The 1-0 score stood until the game's final minutes when Conor Riley converted on a rebound opportunity with 90 seconds remaining for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. After Adirondack pulled Johnson with an offensive-zone faceoff looming, the Thunder won the draw and the puck ended up with Pete MacArthur on the right wing. The veteran fired a wrist shot that Railers goalie Evan Buitenhuis saved initially, but Riley found the rebound to give him a tally in back-to-back games.
Both goalies were tremendous in their respective nets. Johnson made 24 saves for Adirondack while Buitenhuis turned away 36 shots in a first-star effort.
The Thunder are off until Sunday afternoon when they travel to Ontario to take on the Brampton Beast. Puck drop is schedule for 2:00 p.m. from CAA Centre in Brampton.
