
Steelheads Open Series with 3-2 Shootout Loss to Rush

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads (5-7-3) came out strong and earned a point but fell in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Rapid City Rush (7-5-2) on Wednesday Night at CenturyLink Arena.
The Steelheads scored the opening two goals of the game in the first period. At 12:56, forward Justin Parizek sent a cross-ice pass to forward Spencer Naas, who shot the puck home to take a 1-0 lead. The Steelheads doubled the lead, 2-0, at 19:52 when forward Kyle Schempp cashed in on another centering pass, this time from forward Brad McClure.
The Rush answered back in the second period thanks to forward Mason McCarty at 6:46 to bring the road side within one, 2-1. The Rush added another on a shorthanded goal by forward Pierre-Luc Mercier at 11:36 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2. With no scoring through the rest of the frame and overtime, both teams settled the game in a shoot, during which McCarty and Mercier scored in the first two rounds to take the 3-2 win.
Rush goaltender Adam Carlson (4-2-1) saved 41 of 43 shots in the win, while Steelheads netminder Colton Point (1-0-1) halted 28 of 30 shots in the shootout loss. The Steelheads and Rush continue their three-game weekend on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:10 p.m. from CenturyLink Arena. Tickets are available by calling 383-0080 or going to www.IdahoSteelheads.com.
