New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Manny Mayorson went 3-for-5 with an RBI single to cap a 7-for-14 series, and Adam Loewen drove in two runs with his team-leading 19th double, but the Erie SeaWolves belted four home runs and produced two separate five-run innings to outslug the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 13-6, on Sunday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Trailing 7-1 in the sixth, the Fisher Cats (42-28) broke through against SeaWolves' starter and winning pitcher Duane Below (3-6). Darin Mastroianni (1-for-4, BB, R) led off with a walk, Mayorson singled and Shawn Bowman (1-for-4, RBI, R) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a run-scoring single. Loewen (1-for-3, 2B, BB, RBI, R) then lined a double down the right field line to score Mayorson and Bowman, cutting Erie's lead to 7-4. That ended Below's outing after 5.1 innings, but the left-hander earned the victory after yielding four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
Facing reliever Anthony Shawler in the seventh, Danny Perales (1-for-3, SF, RBI, R) hit a leadoff single, took second on Mastroianni's infield hit and scored when Mayorson ripped a single to left, reducing Erie's lead to 8-5.
Perales' sacrifice fly off Jay Voss in the eighth drew New Hampshire within two runs at 8-6, but Zach Simons struck out pinch-hitter Eric Thames to preserve the lead. Simons closed the game with 1.1 perfect innings of relief to register his third save.
The SeaWolves (30-38) roughed up Trystan Magnuson for five runs in the top of the ninth on Shawn Roof's two-run triple, Andy Dirks's RBI single and Ben Johnson's two-run single for a 13-6 victory. Erie took two out of three over the weekend to become the first visiting club to win a series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in 2010.
Erie jumped on Fisher Cats' starter and losing pitcher B.J. LaMura for five runs on two hits -including a grand slam by Michael Bertram (2-for-5, GS, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R)- and three walks in the top of the third to secure a 5-0 lead. LaMura (1-1) went four innings, allowing six runs on three hits. The right-hander fanned five and walked three.
Ron Bourqin (1-for-3, HR, BB, 2 R), Audy Ciriaco (2-for-4, HR, 2 R) and Dirks (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) added solo homers for the SeaWolves, who lead the Eastern League with 74 homers on the season.
New Hampshire has an off day on Monday prior to opening a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators at Metro Bank Park on Tuesday night at 7:00pm. Right-hander Kyle Drabek (7-6, 3.11) will get the start for the Fisher Cats against Senators left-hander Chuck James (3-0, 1.45). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:40pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
The Fisher Cats open a three-game series against the Reading Phillies at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Monday, June 28, with a 7:05pm game. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Fisher Cats Mini-Bat, courtesy of Akzo Nobel/ICI Paints, and fans will play USA Subs Baseball Bingo.
