March 9, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Mayhem News Release

MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem struggled offensively on Friday night, as they were dropped at home to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mayhem struggled to get started offensively once again, as they fell down 2-0 in the first period. Roanoke's Eric Witzel scored on the power play to start the scoring in the game. After Macon's Troy Passingham stopped Maxime Guyon on a penalty shot, Guyon and Steve Mele got behind the Mayhem defense, and Mele finished the two-on-none chance to take the two-goal lead. On a two-on-one, Caleb Cameron finished off a great pass from Jake Trask to cut the lead in half.

Roanoke tallied two unanswered goals in the second period to take a three-goal lead. Mele scored his second goal of the game, while David Gandara scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway. Just 35 seconds into the third period, Witzel scored his second of the game - collecting a rebound and scoring on the backhand. With just a couple minutes left in the game, Dennis Sicard scored his seventh goal of the season to make it 5-2, but that is all the Mayhem would muster up offensively.

NOTABLE STATS

Troy Passingham started his first game since February 11th, and he was handed his sixth loss of the season, falling to 7-6-3. He allowed five goals on shots from the Rail Yard Dawgs.

The Mayhem were held off the board on the power play once again, as they failed to score on all four man-advantage opportunities. They have now scored on just five of their last 66 power play chances.

Mayhem forward Ian Ecklund recorded his first career professional point against Roanoke, as he assisted on Dennis Sicard's third-period goal.
