
Ice Flyers Fall 3-6 in Birmingham

PENSACOLA, FL. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers traveled to Alabama Friday evening to face off against the Birmingham Bulls for the first of two games this weekend. Pensacola outshot Birmingham 36 to 32, but ultimately fell to the Bulls 3-6 in the Pelham Civic Complex. Chapen LeBlond, Trever Hertz, and Troy Vance scored goals for the Ice Flyers. Shane Topf, Craig Simchuk, Josh Harris, Evan Schultz, Myles MCauley, and Justin Larson had goals for the Bulls.Â
Birmingham took the first period scoring 3 goals in 6 minutes. The Ice Flyers were able to keep an even score until 10:21 in the first. Shane Topf scored a short handed goal with an assist from Josh Harris. Craig Simchuk, with an assist from Myles McCauley and Taylor Dickin, scored the power play goal at 13:04. The Bulls finished off the period with a goal at 16:19 by Josh Harris, assists from Jacob Barber and Phil Tesoriero.Â
The Ice Flyers started off the second period strong with a power play goal of their own by Chapen LeBlond. Assists came from Kyle Haines and Josh Cousineau at 1:19. Birmingham answered going up 4-1 with a goal by Evan Schultz and John Rey at 5:17. Less than a minute later, Trever Hertz of Pensacola scored at 6:01 with an assist from TJ Sarcona returning Ice Flyer Mark Esshaki.Â
After a few power plays, the Ice Flyers capitalized at 13:21 in the third to cut the lead to 3-5 with a goal by Troy Vance. Assists came from Garrett Milan and Charlie Adams. With under two minutes to go, the Bulls' Justin Larson scores on an empty net goal with assists from Taylor Dickin and Craig Simchuk at 18:31.Â

The Ice Flyers take on the Peoria Rivermen Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 in back-to-back games at home in the Pensacola Bay Center. Friday is Small Dog Race Night!
