Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Southern League has announced that Chattanooga Lookouts outfielder Max Kepler has been named the Southern League Most Valuable Player. Kepler is the fourth Lookouts player to be named MVP and the first since Scott Van Slyke came away with the award in 2011.
Leading the circuit with a .327 batting average, .415 on-base percentage, .540 slugging percentage and OPS of .954, Kepler earned 2015 Southern League Most Valuable Player honors. The Berlin, Germany native has been remarkable all season long, posting top ten numbers with 73 runs, 128 hits, 53 extra-base hits, 211 total bases, 32 doubles, 12 triples, 69 RBI and 60 walks. Through 107 games played, Kepler belted nine homeruns and stole 18 bases in 22 attempts. Splitting time between outfield, first base and as designated hitter, the lefty twice earned Player of the Week honors on May 25 and June 22. Kepler was also selected to both the Futures and the Southern League All-Star Games.
"Max made a tremendous adjustment to his swing and stuck with it the whole season," said Lookouts Hitting Coach Chad Allen. "He has been a pleasure to coach because of all the hard work he put in this year and definitely deserves this award."
Tonight, the Lookouts begin their last regular season homestand of the year when they play the Jackson Generals at 7:15 p.m. This promotion packed slate includes Thirsty Thursdaytm on 9/3, Fireworks Friday on 9/4 (Tennessee Lottery), Mini-Bat Giveaway/Myron Noodleman (Dr. Pepper) on 9/5 and Fan Appreciation Night (Tennessee Valley Railroad) on 9/6.
