MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Jake Faria (7-3) struck out eight in five innings of work as the Biscuits (75-59/37-23) continued to frustrate the Birmingham Barons (67-68/34-32), edging their North Division rivals 4-3 on Thursday night at Riverwalk.

Tyler Danish (8-12) was on the hill for the Barons, but it was the 21-year-old Faria who stole the show, blanking Birmingham in another terrific start. Montgomery's bats gave the right-hander a boost in the second when newcomer Marty Gantt stepped up to the plate and delivered his first hit at the Double-A level, an RBI-double that made it 2-0 Biscuits. Juniel Querecuto added a sac fly to make it 3-0 heading into the third.

In the fourth, Gantt was at it again, this time hitting into an RBI-groundout that extended the Biscuits lead to four. Birmingham would battle back in the sixth when Brian Fletcher took Kyle McPherson deep to right centerfield with a solo shot, and Marcus Lemon's two-run double in the eighth cut the deficit to one at 4-3.

Although Biscuits closer Brad Schreiber served up a one-out double in the top of the ninth to Jacob May, the hard-throwing righty eventually slammed the door to earn his 11th save of the season for Montgomery.

The Biscuits will look to keep the momentum going on Friday night when Jaime Schultz (9-5) takes the mound against Matt Heindenreich (1-1) at 7:05 PM.
