Jackson Generals News Release

Chattanooga, Tenn. - Stephen Landazuri took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Paul Fry struck out four batters in relief to bookend a fantastic pitching performance in Jackson's 5-2 win over Chattanooga in Thursday's series opener at AT&T Field. Three Jackson hurlers combined to hold one of the league's best offenses to just four hits.

Stephen Landazuri (2-6, 4.56) was at his best for much of the night, going six innings for Jackson (22-43, 51-82) before allowing a hit in the seventh. Jorge Polanco doubled to break up the no-hit bid and Southern League MVP Max Kepler tripled him home to make it 3-1. Landazuri was pulled after hitting Travis Harrison with a pitch.

Trey Cochran-Gill and Paul Fry combined to keep the Lookouts at bay over the final three innings. With men on the corners and nobody out, Cochran-Gill entered in the seventh. He struck out Adam Brett Walker before inducing an inning-ending double play from D.J. Hicks to maintain Jackson's two-run edge.

Chattanooga (31-34, 74-59) got consecutive singles in to start the eighth off of Cochran-Gill. After a sacrifice bunt, the Lookouts scored a run on an RBI groundout to cut Jackson's lead to one. With two down and the tying run on third, Paul Fry struck out Polanco looking to keep the Generals in front.

Ian Miller gave Fry some cushion with a two-run double to left field in the top of the ninth, putting the Generals on top 5-2. The lefty wouldn't need it, as he struck out three more batters in the ninth to finish off the win for Jackson. Fry (S, 5) picked up his fifth save of the season and his second in as many games.

Jackson jumped in front thanks to a pair of long balls against Chattanooga starter Jason Wheeler (4-3, 3.92). Jordy Lara took him deep to left field for the game's opening run in the second. In the sixth inning, Aderlin Rodriguez knocked Wheeler out of the contest with a monstrous two-run shot over the scoreboard in left field that plated Lara as well to make it 3-0.

The win was the second in a row and fourth in six games for Jackson after taking three of five from Pensacola in the team's last home series. Jackson has also won three-straight over Chattanooga in the season series.

The Generals go for their first three-game winning streak of the Second Half in game two on Friday night in Chattanooga. Misael Siverio (5-11, 4.16) is set to face off against Chattanooga southpaw David Hurlbut (10-5, 3.66).
