July 9, 2023 - International League (IL)
Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Atlanta Braves' ace Max Fried struck out the first batter he faced and dealt 1.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start, and the Gwinnett Stripers (37-49) put up eight runs in the sixth and turned a triple play in the seventh to beat the Omaha Storm Chasers (41-42) 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.

Decisive Plays: With the game still scoreless entering the bottom of the sixth, Vaughn Grissom led off with a shallow pop fly to right that landed for a leadoff single. From there, the Stripers drew two walks to load the bases and Joe Hudson was hit by a pitch by Brad Keller (L, 0-2) to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. The Stripers scored twice more on two bases-loaded walks, once on a fielder's choice, once on an error and twice on a two-run single by Jesus Aguilar to leave the frame with an 8-0 lead. Omaha got its only run on a Tucker Bradley RBI double in the seventh to make it 8-1. The Stripers turned a 5-4-3 triple play to end the inning.

Key Contributors: Grissom (2-for-4, double) had the only multi-hit game for Gwinnett while Aguilar (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) drove in a pair with his only hit of the day. Allan Winans (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) pitched the bulk of the game for the Stripers and collected the win. For Omaha, John Rave (1-for-4, double), Logan Porter (1-for-3, double, BB), and Bradley (1-for-3, double) all had extra-base hits.

Noteworthy: The 5-4-3 triple play included Daniel Robertson, Grissom, and Joe Dunand and was the seventh in Gwinnett history (first since July 1, 2022). Grissom collected his team-best 24th multi-hit game of the season. The Stripers had more walks (5) than hits (2) in their eight-run sixth inning. Gwinnett finished 9-2 in its first-ever season series against Omaha.

Next Game (Friday, July 14): Gwinnett at Memphis, 8:05 p.m. ET at AutoZone Park. Broadcast: 7:50 p.m. ET on MyCountry993.com.
