
Mavs Fleece the Mallards, 6-3

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Quad City Mallards, 6-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 5,800 fans, Saturday night at Independence Events Center. Brandon Coccimiglio scored two goals for the second consecutive game. Dale Mahovsky, Andrew Courtney, Sebastien Thinel and Mike Wakita all added goals for the Mavs in their fourth consecutive victory. The Mavs now travel to Moline, Illinois to wrap up part two of their home-and-home series tomorrow at i wireless Center.
The Mallards struck first two minutes into the opening period on a goal from Eric Giosa. John Snowden and Mickey Lang assisted on the goal. The Mavericks countered right back just over a minute later on Mike Wakita's second goal of the season. Ed McGrane was credited with the assist on Wakita's goal. Sebastien Thinel gave the Mavs the early lead on a goal at the 13:20 mark of the period. John-Scott Dickson and Dale Mahovsky assisted on the goal.
The Mavericks exploded for three goals in the first seven minutes of the second period. Dale Mahovsky, Andrew Courtney and Brandon Coccimiglio all registered tallies for the Mavs. Assisting on the goals were Thinel, McGrane, David Simoes, Ryan Jardine and Patrick Schafer. After Coccimiglio's goal, the Mallards pulled goaltender David McKee and replaced him with David Brown. The Mallards brought the score within three with a goal from Eric Giosa with five seconds left in the period.
The Mavericks pushed the lead back to four on Brandon Coccimiglio's second goal of the night. Schafer notched his second assist of the night with Carlyle Lewis earning the secondary assist on Coccimiglio's tally. Quad City got back within three goals on a goal from Brandon Marino, but the deficit was too much to overcome and the Mavs skated to the 6-3 victory.
The Mavs and Mallards wrap up part two of their home-and-home series tomorrow night at the Mallards' home arena, i wireless Center in Moline, Illinois. Missouri returns to Independence Events Center next Friday to face the Allen Americans.
