Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush extended their home winning streak to a season-high seven games on Friday night, topping the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in thrilling fashion. After skating to a 2-2 tie after 60 minutes, an overtime penalty shot save made by goaltender Danny Battochio set up defenseman Carl Hudson's game-winner with just 16 seconds remaining. The Rush have now won nine of their last twelve games overall. The Rush face the Killer Bees again tomorrow at 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling the Rush office at 716-7825 or online at www.gotmine.com.
The Killer Bees struck on their first powerplay of the game when Dan Gendur snapped a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle, beating Danny Battochio over the glove and opening the scoring 7:14 in. The Rush responded when the Killer Bees made the mistake of icing the puck while playing 4-on-4, giving Rapid City an offensive-zone faceoff with eight seconds left. After a faceoff win, Rapid City's Colin Circelli slid a saucer pass to Les Reaney for a point-blank chance that was denied, but Circelli backhanded the rebound home to tie the game with less than one second left.
Over 26 minutes later, Circelli would net his second of the game, giving the Rush their first lead of the game 6:34 into the third. Konrad Reeder broke in on a 2-on-1, sliding a pass to the left circle where Circelli finished with a shot to the top-left corner for his second of the game and fourth of the season. The Killer Bees forced overtime with another powerplay goal when Aaron Boogaard swatted a puck out of mid-air and over the shoulder of Battochio.
In the extra frame, the Rush not only killed off a 4-on-3 powerplay, but Danny Battochio turned aside a penalty shot from Jason Dixon. With one final chance up the ice, the Rush capitalized on a 3-on-1 when a rebound at the side of the net was slammed in by defenseman Carl Hudson with just 16 seconds remaining.
