Bees' Long Road Trip Closes with 7-3 Loss to Rush

RAPID CITY, S.D.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (14-13-5) closed their five-game road trip with a 7-3 loss to the Rapid City Rush (18-12-1) on Saturday night. Tomas Klempa scored twice for the Bees and Dan Gendur scored as well. Rapid City added a pair of empty net goals to help inflate the score.

The Rapid City Rush scored the first goal of the game while on the power-play at the 6:50 mark of the first period. Konrad Reeder received a Shawn Limpright pass while on the backdoor and slid the puck to the back of the net.

After killing off the next penalty Rapid City would strike on their third power-play opportunity as Anthony Perdicaro deflected a Les Reaney shot to the back of the net at the 14:33 mark.

Rapid City outshot the Killer Bees 21-7 in the first period.

The Killer Bees got one goal back in the second period as Tomas Klempa deked Danny Battochio and slid the puck home after receiving a breakaway pass from Brandon Campos. Dan Gendur also picked up the assist on the Bees first goal of the game.

Rapid City would increase their lead to two goals at 9:00 to play in the third period as Anthony Perdicaro found the back of the net for the second time however just 42 seconds later Dan Gendur scored to bring the Bees back within a goal.

After Gendur's strike Rapid City exploded for two quick goals to give them a 5-2 lead. Tomas Klempa would get one more goal back for the Bees at 17:26 with a shorthanded goal.

With the Bees down two goals Rapid City took a penalty. Needing the two goals the Bees pulled goalie John Murray and Rapid City took advantage with a pair of empty net goals.

The Killer Bees return to action this Friday night playing host to the Texas Brahmas at 7:30 p.m. Before the game the 2012 CHL All-Star game will be held in Arizona where Killer Bees forward Aaron Lee will take to the ice with the CHL's best. Puck drops in Arizona Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
