Notes
Home Sweet Home - Missouri was the last team in the CHL to play a home game, but finally opened the brand-new Independence Events Center this weekend with a pair of sellouts. Missouri was at standing room only in Friday night's 3-2 overtime victory over the Wichita Thunder. The team again sold out for Saturday's game in a 4-2 win over Wichita.
Truman Jersey Night - The Mavericks will wear Truman specialty jerseys on Friday night when the team takes on the Tulsa Oilers at Independence Events Center. The jerseys will be auctioned off directly following the game and any fan is encouraged to bid on their favorite player's jersey. Proceeds will benefit the Truman Heritage Foundation.
Clydesdales and Thunderstix - Prior to Friday night's game, the Budweiser Clydesdales will be at Independence Events Center from 5-7 p.m. for photo opportunities with fans. Truman Library will also give thunderstix to the first 2,000 fans in the doors.
Habitat for Humanity - Mavericks players, wives and coaches will drop the hockey gloves for some work gloves on Tuesday, November 17 from 2-5pm when the team helps build a home with Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity. The home the Mavericks will be working on is for the Martinez family. This family of 7 needs a larger home and one that is handicap accessible for their son who is wheelchair bound. The Mavericks will help hang sheetrock in the house and will help the Martinez family get one step closer to owning their own home. It will also help their 5 children break out of a cycle of poverty.
Welcome to the Mavericks - Jeff MacDermid played his first two games with the Mavericks this past weekend and scored three goals and an assist. He tied the game with 4:45 remaining in regulation on Friday night to force the game into overtime, and then scored on his attempt in the shootout. On Saturday, MacDermid had two power play goals (including the game winner) and assisted on the Mavs' insurance goal in the third period.
Power play starting to click - Missouri finally converted on the power play in Friday night's win after not scoring a PPG in their previous four games. Missouri went 1-7 on the power play against Wichita with Shaun Arvai's second period goal being the lone power play marker. The Mavericks then scored three power play goals on Saturday, the most in any game this season. Missouri had four power play goals in their first nine games (all on the road), and four goals in two games against Wichita at home this weekend.
