Tulsa's T.J. Caig and Kevin Armstrong Sweep Weekly Awards

November 16, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending November 15th, 2009 are forward T.J. Caig and goaltender Kevin Armstrong, both of the Tulsa Oilers. This marks the second time this season that a team has swept the weekly awards (Amarillo's Mike Brown and Joe Guenther after the opening week of the season).

Caig had a very 'repetitive' week scoring two goals with an assist in all three Oilers games (all wins) giving him altogether six goals and three assists. Three of the Kelowna, British Columbia native's goals were on the power play giving him four power play goals on the season, tied for the second most of any CHL player. Caig is fifth in the CHL with 18 points (9-9=18) and has been a big key to the early season success of the Oilers who begin the week tied for second place in the Northern Conference with 14 points (7-3-0).

Armstrong wins the goaltending weekly award winning all three of his starts beating Mississippi twice and Rapid City once. His busiest night came on Tuesday in Mississippi where he turned away 36 shots in his team's 6-5 win. The Winnipeg native followed that up by allowing just three total goals in home wins versus the Rush on Friday and the RiverKings on Saturday. Armstrong has played all but 20 minutes of the Oilers 10 games this season and has posted a 7-3 record.

In recognition of their achievements both Caig and Armstrong will receive a special gift from Oakley.
