Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced after Thursday night's game against the Quad City Mallards that Head Coach Scott Hillman will be representing the Missouri Mavericks as a coach in the Central Hockey League All Star Game on January 12, 2011 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena in Rapid City, South Dakota.
"It's super exciting," Hillman said, "We didn't have All Star games (in the Southern Professional Hockey League) where I came from. Obviously, we weren't even in a playoff position at this time last season and to be at the top of the league this year is just really exciting."
The selection process by the CHL for All Star coaches is a simple number crunch. The two coaches with the best winning percentage in the CHL through December 23 are selected as the coaches for the CHL All Stars, who will take on the defending CHL champions the Rapid City Rush. Coach Hillman will join Allen Americans' Head Coach Dwight Mullins as coaches of the 17-man CHL All Star Team.
"It's a credit to the whole organization, the quality of the guys that are in the locker room. These guys are so motivated to be playing in this building in front of the best fans in the league. It really makes my job a lot easier."
Hillman edged out Bloomington Prairie Thunder Head Coach Jason Christie for the final coaching spot. Bloomington's win percentage of .630 was not enough to oust Hillman from the running. This is the first time Hillman will appear in an All Star Game as a coach. He appeared four times as a defenseman for the Odessa Jackalopes from 2001-07.
"It'll be fun. I know the boys are excited because they'll get a few days off from me. We're excited to be moving in the right direction."
Tickets for the CHL All Star Game are available by phone at 1-800-Got-Mine, visiting the Rush's website, www.RapidCityRush.com or www.GotMine.com.
The Missouri Mavericks return to the ice the day after Christmas for a three day stretch featuring two games in Wichita and one game in Tulsa. The Mavs return home on New Year's Eve to face the Colorado Eagles. Tickets are still available at the Independence Events Center Box Office, by calling (800) 745-3000 or visiting www.TicketMaster.com . Visit www.MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
