The Mavericks are facing the Americans tonight for the first of 13 meetings this season and the first of seven at the Allen Event Center. Missouri has a 7-11-2 all-time ECHL record against Allen, including a 4-6-1 record on the road. Tonight the Mavericks are renewing acquaintances with the Americans after Allen claimed a 4-2 series win over Missouri in the 2016 Western Conference semifinals. The Mavericks posted a 6-5-0 regular season record against the Americans last season, which included a 3-3-0 mark in Allen. The Mavericks claimed a 3-1 win in their most recent regular season meeting in Allen on March 27, 2016. Josh Robinson paved the way with 41 saves in the win, while Reed Seckel's eighth goal of the season opened the scoring.
MEET THE MAVS
The 2016-17 Mavericks season opening roster features seven returnees from the 2015-16 squad that set a club record with a 52-15-5 mark and won the Brabham Cup as the ECHL regular season champion. Andrew Courtney returns for his sixth season with the team as its all-time leader in goals (140) and games played (318). He will also serve as the Mavericks' captain for the first time in his career. Also back is reigning ECHL Goalie of the Year Josh Robinson. He set an ECHL record last year with a 21-game winning wining streak as part of his 28-2-1 overall record. His 1.88 goals-against average was tops in the league - and fourth best in league history - as was his .931 save percentage. Rounding out the returning Mavericks are Rocco Carzo (coming off a career-high 41 assist season), Bryce Aneloski (top scoring defenseman from 15-16 Mavericks), Jesse Graham (9 assists in 11 games for Missouri last year), Darren Nowick (7 points in 13 games with Missouri on amateur tryout last year) and Reed Seckel (originally acquired in a trade from Indy). Sixteen new Mavericks comprise the rest of the roster and are highlighted by former Memorial Cup champion Aaron Berisha, former national championship teammates at Yale - Gus Young and Ryan Obuchowski and former OHL goal-scoring leader Dane Fox.
