FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Brady Vail scored twice as the Fort Wayne Komets (2-0-0) claimed a 3-1 win over the Quad City Mallards (0-2-0) Saturday night in the Komets' home opener.

Vail opened the scoring with a one timer at 2:57 of the first period. The Mallards were on the power play when Sam Warning's breakaway goal tied the game at one at 14:01 of the first but Mike Cazzola would snap the deadlock on the power play by banking the puck into the net off a Mallard at 17:22.

Vail scored a crucial insurance goal on a 4-on-4 breakaway at 16:50 of the second period. Goaltender Pat Nagle (26 saves) and the Komets muzzled the Mallards the rest of the way.

The win was the Komets' second in as many nights over the Mallards. Fort Wayne scored a season-opening 6-2 victory in the Quad Cities Friday evening.
