DULUTH, GA-- Kyle Bonis led the Walleye offensive surge with a hat trick in a 7-4 win Saturday night in Atlanta. Toledo has a season record of 1-1-0-0 and is 1-1-0-0 on the road. Similar to Friday night, Toledo controlled most of the play in the first period with a shot advantage or 20-10. Following an Atlanta goal, the Walleye exploded with back to back goals just 22 seconds apart. The first from Kyle Bonis at 12:49 when his deadly wrist shot bested Gladiators goaltender Matt Ginn. AJ Jenks deflected Evan Rankin's shot at 13:11 to give the Walleye the lead. Tyler Sikura snuck a shot through the legs of Ginn at 19:15 to give Toledo a 3-2 lead after one period. It was more of the same in the second period as Evan Rankin made it 4-2 just 1:52 in. Kyle Bonis would collect his second goal of the game at 6:24 of the period. Bonis fed a perfect pass to AJ Jenks at 12:31 for a power play goal that extended the Walleye lead to 6-3 following the second frame. After the Gladiators had cut into the Walleye lead, Kyle Bonis capped his night with an empty-net goal at 16:18 of the third period. Walleye Notes : Goaltender Cal Heeter made his first start for the Walleye stopping 39 of 43 shots he faced and has a record of 1-0-0-0 on the season. The second goal of the game for Kyle Bonis was a shorthanded goal. Toledo finished the game with 38 shots on goal.
