October 15, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (0-2-0-0) fell to the Indy Fuel, 2-1, on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Forward Dominic Zombo scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, who are swept in the weekend hone-and-home with Indy.
The Cyclones came out strong in the opening period, getting a number of quality scoring opportunities. The Cyclones' physical prowess was on display in the first as well, as Arvin Atwal took down Brady Ramsay in the first fight of the season.
Despite the Cyclones' strong play, the Fuel drew first blood with 4.5 seconds remaining in the first, when forward Tyler Currier scored a shorthanded marker to put Indy up, 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Cyclones continued to get quality scoring chances in the second, however found themselves in a 2-0 deficit when a centering pass from forward Alex Wideman inadvertently went off of a skate in front of the net and past Cincinnati goaltender Mark Visentin, 11:36 into the frame.
The Fuel's 2-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the period, and in the third the Cyclones' hard work offensively paid off with a little over five minutes remaining, when a shot from forward Shawn O'Donnell was turned away by Fuel netminder Jake Hildebrand, but Zombo was trailing up the play and popped in the rebound to cut Cincinnati's deficit to 2-1.
Similar to Friday, the Cyclones put together a furious late period rush, however could not solve Hildebrand and fell for the second straight night, 2-1.
The Cyclones outshot Indy on the night, 24-21, with netminder Mark Visentin stopping 19 in a losing effort. The Cyclones are back at it on Tuesday night against the Toledo Walleye. Face-off is slated for 7:35pm at U.S. Bank Arena.
