Adirondack Thunder News Release

WHO: ADIRONDACK THUNDER (1-0-0-0) vs MANCHESTER MONARCHS (0-0-0-1) WHAT: ECHL Regular Season Game

WHEN: Saturday, October 15 - SNHU Arena - 6 PM

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup completes the back-to-back set between Adirondack and Manchester, on the ECHL's opening weekend. The Thunder were victorious last night with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Monarchs. Greg Wolfe led the way with two points (1-1-2), while James Henry netted the shootout winner in the fourth round and Mason McDonald made 24 saves for his first career professional victory.

HAVEN'T WE SEEN YOU BEFORE?: The Thunder and Monarchs have become familiar foes over the past season, with the teams having met a whopping 20 times a season ago, including a five-game battle in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The two teams will meet 15 times more this season, including six of the first nine games for the Thunder. Two rivals square off in Adirondack's home opener one week from today on October 22 in Glens Falls.

STEPPEN-WOLFE: The Thunder were led offensively last evening by forward Greg Wolfe, who collected a goal and an assist in the season debut. Wolfe's goal late in the second period gave Adirondack a 3-2 lead and marked the seventh time in his Thunder career that he has scored in the last three minutes of a period against the Monarchs. In 18 career games against Manchester, Wolfe has scored at over a point-per-game pace with 10 goals and 19 points.

A GAME OF FIRSTS: Adirondack saw seven players make their ECHL debuts last evening, including McDonald in net, who earned his first career professional win in his first professional appearance. Forward Brian Ward collected his first career professional goal, which came in the second period, while defenseman Alex Wall netted his first professional point in his fourth game played. Forward Brett Pollock also collected his first professional assist with a helper on Wolfe's tally.

SHOOT-OUT TO THRILL: The Thunder matched last season's total with their first shootout win of the season, thanks to goals from Peter MacArthur and Henry, along with saves on three of four shots from McDonald. Adirondack struggled in the shootout a season ago, going just 1-4. MacArthur's goal was his third in his Thunder career, the most in franchise history, while Henry is a perfect 1-for-1, having not shot in a shootout last season.

FRIDAY FUN DAY: The Thunder got off to a strong start with the two points on Friday, which was their most successful day point-wise in the 2015-16 season. The Thunder won 10 games on Fridays last season and collected 22 points, the most of all days last season.
