Kansas City Mavericks News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Missouri Mavericks played to a 2-1 decision for the second game in a row on Wednesday night. Unlike last Saturday, however, the Mavericks were not able to come out on top as they fell to the Quad City Mallards on the road. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 1-4-0 on the season.

Missouri's defense and goaltending paved the way to the win in its home-opening win last Saturday against Indy. Those same elements continued to shine in the first period against Quad City on Wednesday. The Mallards, returning home from two wins in Rapid City last weekend, raced out of the gate and earned the first seven shots on goal. In his third professional start, Eamon McAdam was sharp early for the Mavericks and stopped two high-quality chances within the first five minutes. Missouri won some momentum back later in the period thanks to some strong penalty killing, and the Mavericks' best scoring chance of the frame came on a shorthanded two-on-one between Rocco Carzo and Shawn Pauly. Adam Vay stopped each of the six shots he saw from Missouri in the first and the game was scoreless headed into the second.

The Mavericks and Mallards did not spend much time at full strength in the second period as the teams combined for 16 penalty minutes. Quad City capitalized early and grabbed the lead on a power play goal from Sam Warning. The marker put the Mallards up 1-0 only 37 seconds into the frame and assists went to Jace Coyle and Mike Monfredo. The Mavericks answered back to tie it on Radoslav Illo's third goal of the season at 9:08. Helpers on the even-strength tally went to Dane Fox and Bryce Aneloski. Despite being out-chanced on the power play 4-2 in the second, the Mavericks out-shot the Mallards 9-7 in the frame.

Missouri continued to carry the play in the third period to the tune of a 10-5 shot advantage against the Mallards. Three of those came on an early power play when Quad City defenseman Mike Monfredo picked up a boarding minor. The Mavericks held possession in the Mallards' end for much of the power play and generated three quality scoring opportunities. Vay, however, turned each of them away and allowed for Alex Petan's unassisted goal at 11:20 to put the Mallards back in the lead. Missouri pulled McAdam for the extra attacker within the final minute but could not find the tying goal.

McAdam suffered the loss while stopping 25 shots. The Mavericks ended the game 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendars! The Mavericks return to home ice on Saturday, November 5 at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.
