LOVELAND, CO. - Eagles forward Jesse Mychan notched a four-point game, including his first hat trick of the season, as Colorado defeated the Rapid City Rush 7-5 on Wednesday. Colorado now improves to 4-1 to start the season and sits alone in first place in the ECHL's Mountain Division.

Rookie forward Cole Sanford put the Eagles on the scoreboard just 3:21 into the contest when he fired a wrister past Rush goaltender Kent Patterson to give Colorado the 1-0 advantage. Mychan would grow that lead 43 seconds later when he stuffed in a rebound to make it 2-0 Eagles. That goal would signal the end of the evening for Patterson, who would give way to back-up goaltender Charlie Grant.

The change in net would spark Rapid City, as they would cut into the Colorado lead with a shot from the low slot from forward Brayden Low to trim the Eagles lead to 2-1 at the 13:33 mark of the first. The Rush would knot the game up with only six seconds remaining in the opening frame when forward Lindsay Sparks raced down the left wing and beat Eagles goalie Nathan Liewuen to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first.

Rapid City would continue to find the back of the net as the two teams started the second period. Forward Brendan Walker would bury a cross-slot feed to give the Rush their first lead of the game at 3-2 just 1:27 into the period. That lead would increase, as forward Brett Perlini powered a shot from between the circles into the back of the net at the 9:49 mark to make it 4-2 Rapid City. The goal would also signal the end of the night for Lieuwen, who would exit the game, as Clarke Saunders took over in net.

The Eagles would put the brakes on the Rush's offensive onslaught 31 seconds later when Sanford registered his second goal of the night to cut the Rapid City lead to 4-3. The Rush would have an immediate answer of its own 24 seconds later as forward Josh MacDonald beat Saunders with a slapshot from the slot to give Rapid City the 5-3 advantage.

Colorado would find itself on the powerplay late in the second period and they would capitalize, as forward Luke Salazar drilled a cross-slot pass into the net to make it a 5-4 Rush lead at the 13:32 mark of the middle frame.

Heading into the final period Colorado would flex its muscle offensively, adding three more goals. Forward Ryan Harrison was the first to light the lamp, beating Grant with a wrister just 40 seconds into the final stanza that tied the game at 5-5. Only 3:10 later, Mychan would gather a rebound in the left circle and snap it home to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead. Mychan would finish off the hat trick by sending a loose puck into an empty net with 43 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Eagles the 7-5 victory.

Colorado now hits the road for two games against the Utah Grizzlies in West Valley City, Utah. The Eagles and Grizzlies will drop the puck on the first game of that two-game set on Friday at 7:05pm MT.
