Boise, ID-Chris McCarthy forced a turnover and Mike Pereira buried the eventual game-winner with 15:33 left in the game, as the Reading Royals (3-1-0) overcame a 2-0 second period deficit to defeat the Idaho Steelheads (1-3-1), 3-2 at CenturyLink Arena in the first game between the teams since January 2009.

Steelheads defenseman Joe Faust was camped out behind his own net for a controlled breakout when McCarthy came streaking right through and flushed Faust out from cover, forcing the turnover and centering a pass for Pereira. Idaho goaltender Landon Bow never had a chance to move before Pereira's first of the season hit the back of the net to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. The Steelheads nearly drew even late in the third when Will Merchant took a slick Rob Linsmayer feed in the slot and rang the left post behind Royals goaltender Martin Ouellette. That was the only puck to get behind Ouellette in the final frame, during which he made 12 of his 32 saves.

It was Merchant and Linsmayer who worked together to get Idaho out to a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. First, Linsmayer fed a power play feed from the right wing corner to the slot for a quick shot and the first professional goal for Merchant. The Steelheads now have power play goals in four straight games.

Just 4:28 later, it was Linsmayer's turn. The newly named assistant captain scooped up a puck behind the net from Merchant, brought it out to the bottom of the left circle, and whipped a sharp-angled shot over the near shoulder of Ouellette for his second goal of the season.

The lead was short-lived. At 14:43 of the second, Ryan Penny got Reading on the board with a wrist shot from the high slot. Just 41 seconds later, an innocent looking wrist shot from the left point by Derick Johnson found its way through a maze of bodies and past Bow to tie the game 2-2.

The Steelheads are now 1-1-1 on home ice this season, with two games remaining on this five-game home stand.

The Steelheads return to action against the Royals at CenturyLink Arena on Friday night with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10pm MT. The game is available on Cable One, ECHLTV and 93.1FM KTIK. _
