ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES -

Tonight, the Royals kick off a season-long eight game road trip with the first of three in a row against the Idaho Steelheads at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho.

-

This is the second time that Royals have visited Boise. In the 2008-09 season, Reading played the Steelheads here in what was then known as Qwest Arena in back-to-back games, falling in the first of the two game set, 3-1, (January 9, 2009) but bouncing back to win the second game, 5-4, with James Reimer in net (January 10, 2009).

-

The 5-4 win over the Steelheads on January 10, 2009, was actually the second win in Royals' Head Coach Larry Courville's coaching career with the team. (He had picked up his first win with the team three days prior- January 7, 2009-in Salt Lake City, Utah, 3-0, over the Utah Grizzlies-shortly after he took over the reigns of the team mid-season.) In the seven plus seasons since his win in Idaho in January of 2009, Coach Courville has added 305 wins to his total (307-187-25-25).

-

Reading has faced Idaho one other time in team history. That came in the 2008-09 season, as well, at what was then-known as Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, on November 1, 2008, when the Royals defeated Idaho, 6-2, on the strength of a game winner from Matt Herneisen.

-

This marks only the second time in team history that the Royals have gone for as long as eight consecutive games on the road. In the 2004-05 season, Reading played eight straight away from home ice in cities as geographically disparate as Toledo, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Lafayette, Louisiana; Beaumont, Texas, and Pensacola, Florida (12/18/04 - 01/04/05). The team had considerable success on that jaunt, running off a record of 6-1-1 in those games

-

Reading has had four other road trips in team history in which the team has gone for as long as seven consecutive games, including last season when the team went 3-2-1-1 in a seven game roadie in early to mid-December (12/04 - 12/15/16).

-

The Royals are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs last Friday at Santander Arena in Reading. The team fell behind 2-0 on a first period power play goal and an even strength goal in the second period. The Royals put a bit of a scare into the Monarchs when Steven Swavely scored fifty seconds into the third period to cut the lead to 2-1; but that fright didn't last long, as 1:05 later Manchester bounced back to re-take the two goal advantage and then pulled away with back-to-back goals separated by only seventeen seconds in the earlier stages of the third period.

-

The Royals' lone goal last Friday was the second of the season for Reading-area native Steven Swavely. Both of his have come in the two games played by him so far in his career at Santander Arena in Reading.

-

Despite getting saddled with the loss last Friday, goaltender Mark Dekanich made a season-high 34 saves for the team.

-

In Friday's loss, Reading's penalty killers got touched up for a pair of power play goals against, marking the third straight game in which the team has allowed two PPGAs. Reading's kill ratio of 64.7% (6 PPGA - 17 chances) is currently dead last in the league.

-

Despite being held off the board on Friday by Manchester (0-5), the Royals' power play still leads the league with a 33.3% scoring ratio (4 for 12).
