Mavericks Drop First Game against Brampton

Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks dropped their first ever matchup to the Brampton Beast after an unfortunate tip-in goal gave the Beast a 4-3 edge to win the game.
In an aggressive start to the game, the Brampton Beast struck first with two quick goals to take a powerful 2-0 lead over the Mavericks in the first five minutes of play. Not ready to be undone by the fast-paced game, John-Scott Dickson answered back for Missouri with a power-play goal, assisted by Colt King and Dave Pszenyczny.
Turnover after turnover slowly worked away at the Mavericks line to give Brampton another opportunity and take a significant 3-1 lead over Missouri at the 7:51 mark of the second period. It was not until the final minute of the period that Trevor Kell was able to get around the traffic in front of the Brampton net and bring the Mavericks back to life with a goal, assisted by Andrew Courtney and Dave Pszenyczny.
Within one at the start of the period, Eric Castonguay found his stride during the "Minute of Madness" at the top of the third. Fueled by the cheering crowd, Castonguay was able to land a shot right at the back of the Brampton net to tie the game 3-3.
Still plagued by turnovers and falling behind the play, the Mavs got caught off-guard by a puck that pin-balled off of several players before being tipped in by Scott Howes to take a 4-3 lead for the Beast that would last through the end of regulation.
Mavericks Head Coach, Scott Hillman, recognizes goaltender Shane Owen's strong night between the pipes, despite the game outcome. "Shane was outstanding. There was nothing he could have done about any of those goals from his standpoint." Owen was awarded the CHL Warrior Goaltender of the Month earlier in the day on Friday.
The Mavericks get their chance at redemption tomorrow, as their new rival visits the Independence Events Center again on Saturday night at 7:05pm. The Mavericks will be wearing specialty blue jerseys during the game, and a live auction for the game-worn jerseys will take place directly after the game in sections 101 and 102.
