
Sundogs' Offense Comes Alive, Final Score 6-3

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs' offense came alive Friday night against the Wichita Thunder with a final score of 6-3 at the INTRUST Bank Arena. David Rutherford and Brandon Coccimiglio each posted two goals and an assist.
The Sundogs wasted no time getting on the board when Rutherford tipped the puck past Thunder netminder Taylor Nelson 27 seconds into the opening period, their fastest goal, scored this season. Coccimiglio picked up the assist. Wichita's Tomas Klempa broke the drought when he notched a goal tying the game 14:28 into the first, only for the Sundogs to answer back 40 seconds later giving them the lead at the end of the first. Coccimiglio collected the goal with assists from Rutherford and Paul Mcilveen .
Kevin Baker extended Arizona's lead 7:01 into the middle frame while on the power play, after Andrew Martens was called for hooking. Sundogs quickly gave up their two goal lead after Klempa responded, posting his second goal of the night. And Matt Robinson equalized the game 13:35 tying the game heading into the second intermission.
Three goals in the final period solidified the victory for Arizona. Rutherford, Cameron and Coccimiglio each registered a goal apiece pushing the Sundogs to a 6-3 win. Rutherford collected his third point of the night 2:59 into the period with assist from Garrett Clarke. 6:35 later and Cameron poked the puck in the net on a rebound shot from Kevin Baker and Jordan Clendenning. With under two minutes remaining in the final 20 minutes of play, Coccimiglio scored an unassisted empty net goal after Wichita opted for the extra attacker.
Engelage recorded his ninth win of the season blocking 28 of 31 shots. The Sundogs were outshot 31-25. Arizona was 1-2 on the power play and Wichita was 0-3 tonight.
Both teams are back at it again Saturday night when the puck drops at 6:05pm Arizona time.
