CHL Central Hockey League

Missouri's Shane Owen Named Warrior/CHL Goaltender of the Month

January 3, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

GLENDALE, AZ (January 3, 2014) -The Central Hockey League announced today that Missouri's Shane Owen has been named the Warrior Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for December/2013. Owen will receive a special gift courtesy of Warrior and the Central Hockey League to recognize his accomplishment.

It should come as no surprise the netminder wins the monthly honor as twice during the month he was awarded the Oakley Goaltender of the Week award (Dec. 24 and Dec. 31). The Shanty Bay, Ontario native allowed seven goals in an 8-6 loss to Wichita in his first start of the month but rebounded to win seven of his next eight starts allowing just 15 total goals in those eight games.

The goalie finished the month with a 7-2 record with a 2.45 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. His best stretch of the month has come over his last four games where he is 4-0 with two wins in Rapid City and two wins over Tulsa.

Owen is second in the CHL with 17 wins on the season (17-4-0), second with a 2.35 goals against average, third in save percentage at .923 and third in minutes played (1225:05).

Other goaltenders receiving consideration for the monthly award for December include Allen's Bryan Pitton, Brampton's Grant Rollheiser, Denver's Kieran Millan and Kent Patterson, Quad City's Thomas Heemskerk and Ty Rimmer, Rapid City's Tim Boron and Wichita's Taylor Nelson.
