ALLEN, TX (December 26, 2015)- The No. 1 Missouri Mavericks defeated the Allen Americans 3-1 on the road in Allen, TX on Saturday night, moving the league-leading team ahead another two points with an overall record of 23-3-0-1.
Sebastien Sylvestre scored two goals in the Mavs fourth straight win and goaltender Josh Robinson improved to 14-0-0-1 with the victory. Robinson made 32 saves through a full sixty minutes between the pipes for the Mavericks on Saturday. He is ranked second overall amongst top league goalies with a 1.65 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
Rookie center, Tanner Fritz, scored the opening tally just 2:43 into the game when the Mavs created an odd-man rush situation on Allen net-minder, Riley Gill. David deKastrozza was credited with the lone assist on Fritz's fifth goal of the season for Missouri. The Americans responded quickly, amping up their attempts in the Mavs' zone and scoring at 5:30 to tie the game up 1-1 via Jonathan Parker. Gary Steffes and Aaron Gens assisted on the play.
The Americans held a shots on goal advantage of 15-8 by the end of the first period, but the Mavs came back in the second frame to pace Allen in opportunities, and broke the tie with a late goal from Sebastien Sylvestre with less than four minutes left in the period. Defenseman C.J. Ludwig claimed the helper on Sylvestre's first goal of the contest.
Sylvestre then boosted the Mavericks ahead 3-1 midway through the final period at 11:40 when he bested Gill in the crease, finishing a play generated by Torin Snydeman, who took the assist on Sylvestre's tally.
Robinson held steadfast in goal for the Mavericks through the remainder of regulation to keep the score at 3-1 until the final buzzer.
The Mavericks return home to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena for their next two games on New Year's Eve at 7:05p.m. against the Wichita Thunder, and New Year's Day at 4:10p.m. against the Allen Americans.
