Masterson Named Eastern League Pitcher Of The Week

Portland, Maine- Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson has been selected the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 13th. The selection was made by Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

The 23 year-old, Masterson made two starts for the Sea Dogs during the Eastern League's first week of play posting a 0-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, ten strikeouts and no walks. In Masterson's first start of the year, he received a no decision tossing four innings at New Britain allowing no runs on three hits, striking out three. In his second start of the season, against the Defenders, Masterson went five innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out seven. Masterson did not factor into the decision.

Masterson is the fourth ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization according to Baseball America. He joined the Sea Dogs on July 7, 2007 and was selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 9-15th. He won his first four straight decisions with Portland earning him Eastern League Player of the Month honors for July. Last season with the Sea Dogs, Masterson was 4-3 with a 4.34 ERA. Masterson was selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the June 2006 draft out of San Diego State.

The 6-3 Portland Sea Dogs begin a three game series with the Connecticut Defenders at 6:00 PM Monday at Hadlock Field. Justin Masterson is the scheduled starter for the Sea Dogs.
