Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Nick Evans hit a go-ahead, three-run homer during a four-run sixth inning for the Binghamton Mets, who beat the Akron Aeros 6-3 at Canal Park Monday. The win is Binghamton's third straight.

Akron (4-6) jumped on B-Mets starter Jonathon Niese for two runs in the first on Michael Aubrey's sacrifice fly and Ryan Goleski's run-scoring single. The Aeros tacked on another run in the fifth when Matt Whitney doubled and scored on an error for a 3-0 lead. The B-Mets (7-4) were handcuffed by Akron starter Kevin Dixon through the first five innings. Dixon (0-1) had allowed one hit and retired 15 of 16 before Josh Petersen and Fernando Martinez led off the sixth with back-to-back singles. Emmanuel Garcia reached on a fielder's choice that forced out Martinez at second before Daniel Murphy singled in Petersen for Binghamton's first run. Evans followed with a three-run blast to left-center that put the B-Mets ahead 4-3.

Binghamton tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Salomon Manriquez singled and Ambiorix Concepcion doubled before Jose Coronado was intentionally walked to load the bases. Petersen followed with an infield hit that brought in Manriquez and Martinez singled in Concepcion with the game's final run.

Relievers Eddie Camacho (1-1) and German Marte combined for 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four. Marte got the final six outs, earning his second save in as many chances.

Tuesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series in Akron. Jose Sanchez (2-0, 1.80) will start for Binghamton against lefty Chuck Lofgren (0-1, 5.79) of Akron. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
