Canal Park Home Run Trot A Huge Success

AKRON, OH - The 12th Annual Canal Park Home Run Trot not only attracted a record number of participants, but also raised a record amount of money for Akron Aeros charities and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the team announced today. The race was held Saturday, March 29th.

This year's Home Run Trot attracted 707 runners, a 20% increase over last year's 589 participants. The race officially raised $19,877.99 for Aeros charities, up 14% from last year's total $17,401.

"We're all very pleased at how the numbers came out, and certainly this sets the bar even higher for next year's race," Aeros General Manager and race committee chairman Jeff Auman said. "I also can't say enough about the support we received this year and in years past from our primary and title sponsor Roadway, along with our many other associate and in-kind sponsors. Their backing is a major reason why this event continues to get bigger and better."

Aeros charities were established in 1997 and are committed to the Akron/Summit County area. The non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization was formed to provide a positive contribution to the quality of life for Akron area youth by furthermore providing educational and recreational opportunities. The mission of JDRF International is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

The Aeros are open a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets tonight at 7:05 p.m. Kevin Dixon (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will start for Akron while lefty Jonathon Niese takes the hill for Binghamton. It's also a Dollar Dog Monday at Canal Park, with $1 hot dogs all night long. The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
