Altoona silences Trenton bats for 4-1 win on Monday night

(Trenton, NJ)- RHP Josh Hill gave up just one hit in 5 IP as Altoona won the first game of its three-game series at Waterfront Park on Monday night 4-1. The Thunder dropped to 2-3 in their seven-game homestand.

Altoona (4-7) plated single runs in the first two innings on solo home runs by LF Jonel Pacheco and CF Anthony Webster to take a 2-0 lead. The home runs came off Thunder starting pitcher George Kontos (0-2). Kontos went 5 IP and gave up 5 hits and 3 earned runs. He walked three and struck out two. The Curve would increase their lead in the 5th and 6th innings to 4-0 on RBI singles by SS Luis Cruz.

The only hit Hill (1-1) gave up was a two-out single in the 1st inning to RF Jose Tabata. Tabata had two of the four hits on the night for the Thunder. Hill walked two and struck out two over his five shutout innings. The Thunder offense grounded out 15 times on the night. Trenton (6-6) scored its lone run of the night on an RBI double by Matt Carson in the 9th inning off of Altoona RHP Chris Hernandez.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday night in the middle game of the three-game series. RHP Dan McCutchen (1-1, 1.69) will start for the Thunder against Altoona RHP Derek Hankins (0-0, 1.64). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
