Massie Back with Komets

Fort Wayne Komets News Release


Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced today that winger Michel Massie has agreed to terms and will be in a Fort Wayne uniform for his 2nd consecutive season.

Massie, 25, will be entering his 5th pro season, 3rd in the UHL. "I'm extremely happy to have Michel back," Komet general manager David Franke said. "He was one of the key players we targeted to re-sign when last season ended. I look for a breakthrough year for Michel. He has all the tools needed to take his game to the next level."

Massie appeared in 70 games with Komets last year netting 22 goals and 51 points while accumulating 105 penalty minutes. The skater earned 3 Komet End of Season Awards for his efforts last year including the Mr. Hustle Award, Unsung Hero Award and Most Improved Player Award for 2001-02.

In addition to Massie, the Komets added 3 other players to the 2002-03 roster.

Defenseman Marc Barlow joined the Komets for 4 games (2a, 2pts) at the end of last season and has agreed to terms with the Komets for his first pro year. Barlow, 25, completed 4 years of play with Bowling Green of the CCHA last season. As a senior defenseman he was awarded All-Honorable Mention on the CCHA All-Academic Team.

3rd-year winger Jason Selleke (SELL-uh-key) has agreed to terms with the Komets. Selleke, 24, skated the last 2 seasons in Indianapolis with the Ice in the Central Hockey League. Last year Selleke scored 22 goals and 48 points with 148 penalty minutes in 62 games. Selleke played college hockey at Ohio State of the NCAA 1996-2000 before turning pro.

Goaltender Scott Rideout also was added to the Komet roster today. Rideout, 26, has played the last 5 seasons with the University of Calgary of the CIAU (Candadian Interuniversity Athletic Union). Rideout was elected to the 1998 University of Calgary Freshman All Star Team and voted 2nd Team All Star Goaltender last year for Canada West of the CIS.

The addition of Massie, Barlow, Selleke and Rideout brings the Komet's roster to 15 players including 2 goaltenders, 8 forwards and 5 defensemen.

Former Komet Drysdale wins award.....former Komet George Drysdale received the Elks Lodge Celebrity of the Year Award last Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the annual Elks golf tournament. Former Komet Len Thornson and Komet radio announcer Bob Chase are previous winners of the award. Drysdale, the Komet's first elected team captain, joined the first Komet Hockey Club in 1952 and has resided in Fort Wayne ever since.
