Leading Goal Scorer Goldie Returns, Tough Rookie Roach Also Signs
July 30, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, CA -- The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have announced the signing of left wing Jeff Goldie and right wing Jordan Roach for 2002-03. Goldie was the team's leader in goals and power play goals last season, while Roach is entering his freshman campaign.
Goldie, 28, has 267 professional games under his belt, with 201 career points. He needs just one goal to reach the century mark for his career. In his Condors debut last season, he broke the 30-goal barrier for the first time in his career, lighting the lamp 32 times while adding 28 assists. His 60 points were also a personal best. He has recorded over 20 goals in three of his four seasons.
In addition, the Owen Sound native put up 16 power play goals, which led the team and was second highest in the WCHL. It was also the third-highest single season power play goal total in franchise history, and was enough to rank him in the top five on the Condors career list. He was also the team's leader in shootout goals with five, and was one of only three Condors to reach 200 shots on goal for the season.
Roach, 20, is a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Last season, his time was split between the British Columbia and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey Leagues. He racked up 199 penalty minutes and 12 points in 29 games between his two clubs, and added 72 PIM and four points in nine playoff games with the Humboldt Broncos (SJHL). He has accumulated over 1,200 PIM over the last four seasons in junior hockey.
"Jeff had a very good year for us," said Head Coach Paul Kelly. "He overachieved and scored some big goals last season. He was a fixture on our power play and was a major factor in the offensive attack and his return is good news. Jordan is a rookie who was a real presence in juniors. He's a big kid who plays a tough, physical role and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do."
"I'm happy to be back with the Condors," said Goldie. "I love playing in Bakersfield and I have a great relationship with Coach Kelly. This should be an exciting year for us."
The 2002-03 season opener is 74 days away with the Bakersfield Condors hosting the reigning Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons at Centennial Garden on Saturday, October 12th. Season tickets are now available, with packages starting as low as $42. For more information, contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825), or visit the Condors office at Centennial Garden.
