
Boutin, Rodrigues Return; Goaltender Signed

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have re-signed left wing J.F. Boutin, and defenseman Mike Rodrigues. Peter Aubry, a rookie goaltender from Mercyhurst College was also signed to a contract for the 2002-2003 season.
Boutin, 25, appeared in 52 games for the Chiefs last season scoring 14 goals and 27 assists (41 PTS). He had a goal and 4 assists in 8 playoff games. The 6'0, 210 LBS native of Sherbrooke, PQ spent the majority of his professional career with the Peoria Rivermen. In all Boutin appeared in 162 career games for Peoria scoring 74 goals and 83 assists (157 PTS). . He was named co-MVP (along with current Peoria Head Coach Jason Christie) of the 2000 Kelly Cup playoffs, when he scored 17 goals and 15 assists (32 PTS) in 18 post season games. Boutin started his professional hockey career during the 1997-98 season with the Wheeling Nailers when he scored 23 goals, 30 assists (53 PTS) in 64 games. He also saw action with the Worcester IceCats (15 games) and two games for the Orlando Solar Bears (IHL) during the 1998-99 season. Boutin played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for Chicoutimi, Rouyn-Noranda, St. Hyacinthe, St. Jean, and Sherbrooke.
"Today was a good day for the Chiefs. We have signed three players that can contribute to this team in a big way," said O'Brien. "Over the last several years' J.F. has been one of the top players in the ECHL. He is a proven veteran. It is great when you have a guy like J.F. in your lineup."
Rodrigues, 25, appeared in 71 of 72 games last season for the Chiefs scoring 2 goals and 19 assists (22 PTS). The 6'0, 200 LBS native of Stoughton, MA spent the entire 2000-2001 season with the Chiefs where he had 4 goals and 13 assists (17 PTS) in 61 games. Rodrigues played his collegiate hockey at Merrimack College, where he scored 3 goals and 11 assists (14 PTS) in 106 games with the Warriors.
"Mike has improved both seasons he has been here in Johnstown. He is a fan favorite and we are happy to have Mike back for a third season," added O'Brien.
Aubry, 25, made 29 appearances last season for Mercyhurst going 19-7-2 with a 2.28 GAA and a .931 save percentage. His performance last season earned him All-MAAC first team, and he was named to the MAAC's All-Academic team for the third straight year. Aubry finished last season first in the conference in goals against average, save percentage, and winning percentage. His junior season Aubry was named MAAC Goalie of the Year, and again to the All-MAAC first team. Aubry a native of Windsor, Ontario, stands 6'3 210 LBS. In 93 career games with the Lakers he was 55-26-8, with a 2.45 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
"Peter is an NHL caliber goaltender. He was one of the top goaltenders in college hockey last season. He is a big kid, and we know he can compete at this level," said O'Brien.
