Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, Ohio â The Cincinnati Cyclones, preparing for their 13th consecutive season of professional hockey in Cincinnati, announced today the signing of defenseman Mike Jozefowicz (JOE-zef-o-WICH) and forward Sebastien Thinel (TEE-nel) for the 2002-03 season.
Jozefowicz becomes the second returning player from the 2001-02 club, joining forward Matt Noga who signed earlier this month. The native of Toms River, New Jersey was acquired by the Cyclones from the Macon (Ga.) Whoopee in exchange for Matt Eldred last January. In 24 games with Cincinnati, he posted 16 points (4 goals, 12 assists), 16 penalty minutes, and an impressive +11 rating. Following a successful collegiate career at Northeastern University in Boston, the 6'1", 180 lbs. defenseman joined the ECHL's Jackson (Miss.) Bandits for the final 10 games of the 2000-01 season. After starting the campaign in Jackson, Jozefowicz was dealt to Macon when he was later shipped to Cincinnati.
Thinel is entering his first professional season after posting impressive offensive numbers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Through four seasons in the QMJHL with Victoriaville, Quebec, and Drummondville, the rangy 6'0", 165 lbs. forward posted 344 points (137 goals, 207 assists) and 248 penalty minutes in 271 games played.
"Mike Jozefowicz is a young, smooth-skating defenseman who really came into his own in Cincinnati last season," said Cyclones Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "Just from watching the tapes, I can tell that he made tremendous strides as a player following the deal.
"(Sebastien) Thinel is a proven point-scorer," continued Cameron. "Not only can he provide instant offense, but he is also good in his own end defensively. He had a 118-point season in the Quebec League and we expect him to generate some numbers for us in Cincinnati."
