Syracuse Mets News Release

Buffalo, NY (July 22, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the third game of a four-game set to the Buffalo Bisons, 4-3, Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons scored all four runs in the first inning and held on with the tying run on third base in the ninth inning for the win.

Syracuse (39-60) grabbed its first run in the first inning. Trea Turner and Jayson Werth each singled with one out off Daniel Norris. Chiefs All-Star Jason Martinson then singled in Turner to give the Chiefs the lead. The run marked the fourth time the Chiefs scored first in the seven games since the All-Star break.

Buffalo (49-49) quickly answered in the bottom of the frame. Taylor Hill walked Dalton Pompey to start the inning. Jon Berti then reached on an error on Turner at shortstop to put two runners on with no one out. Two batters later, Matt Hague singled to left field, scoring Pompey to tie the game at one. Caleb Gindl followed with a two-run triple, plating Berti and Hague to give the Bisons a 3-1 lead. Gindl scored a fourth run a batter later, when Andy Burns reached on a second error of the inning by Turner.

The game held at 4-1 until the sixth. Ricky Hague doubled to start the inning and scored on Tony Gwynn's double with one out to cut the deficit to two.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs' pitching shut down Buffalo, holding the Bisons without a hit after the third inning and without a base runner after the fourth. Hill allowed just four hits and one walk in six innings, and Blake Treinen threw two perfect innings in his first appearance since being optioned from Washington.

Syracuse mounted another late-inning rally in the ninth off Bobby Korecky. With two outs, Martinson crushed his 16th home run of the season, estimated at 433 feet over the center-field wall. Now down only one, Kevin Keyes singled and Chris Nelson doubled to put the tying and potential go-ahead runs in scoring position. However, Korecky induced a first-pitch fly out to center field from Hague to end the game.

Syracuse looks for the series split Thursday at 1:05 p.m. A.J. Cole is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Scott Copeland for the Bisons.
