Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WILMINGTON, DE (JUNE 9, 2011) - Jose Martinez drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning to overturn a one-run deficit and the Dash beat the Blue Rocks 3-1 in the second game of an impromptu twin bill on Friday night at Frawley Stadium. Winston-Salem lost the first game, a continuation of Thursday night's suspended game, by a final score of 10-5.

The Blue Rocks (35-32) took a 9-0 lead into the resumption of Thursday's suspended contest. Both teams scored in the sixth inning and the Dash scored the final four runs of the ballgame. Kyle Colligan drove in two runs with a double in the seventh and Ian Gac drilled his league-leading 17th home run of the season in the eighth to finish the scoring.

In game two, both offenses were stifled by outstanding starting pitching. Justin Collop and Jake Odorizzi efficiently shut down the opposition and the game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Blue Rocks took the lead in that inning with an unearned run. Gerard Hall doubled over Colligan's head and took a big turn around second base. Daniel Wagner tried to catch Hall overrunning the bag, but his throw to second sailed over Luis Sierra's head and into the Wilmington dugout. Hall was awarded two bases on the error and scored to make it 1-0 Rocks.

The Dash (31-37) did not wait to respond, notching two unearned runs of their own against a tiring Odorizzi in the sixth. With one out, Nick Ciolli singled and Gac reached on a fielding error by third baseman Rey Navarro. Andy Wilkins followed with a walk to load the bases. After Sierra struck out, Odorizzi was lifted after throwing more than 100 pitches.

Ryan Dennick entered the game and Julio Vinas inserted Martinez into the game to pinch hit for Jason Bour. Martinez lined the second pitch he saw to center field to bring home Ciolli and Gac and give Winston-Salem a 2-1 lead. The Dash added an insurance run on Ciolli's RBI infield single in the top of the seventh.

Taylor Thompson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the season, preserving Collop's (1-3) first win. Odorizzi (5-2) suffered the loss, his second in as many starts against the Dash.

The win was Winston-Salem's first at Wilmington in five games this season.

The series continues on Saturday night when RHP Andre Rienzo (1-2, 3.52) looks to rebound from back-to-back subpar outings against LHP Justin Marks (2-5, 5.12). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and the audio broadcast begins at 5:45 on www.wsdash.com .

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for their first home stand of the season's second half on Sunday, June 26 to start a series against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Fans may purchase tickets for every game this season by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or by visiting www.wsdash.com .
