Potomac Nationals News Release
(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Jeff Kobernus was named to the 2011 Carolina League All Star team on Thursday, the League announced. The Potomac Nationals' second baseman replaces teammate Destin Hood, who was placed on the Disabled List Wednesday evening. Kobernus, the league leader with 26 stolen bases, has gone on a tear to end the first half to earn his first All Star Game recognition.
Kobernus, who is batting .266 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 24 RBIs, has found his offensive stride over the last 28 games. He has hits in all but five of them, and his hitting .333 over that span (37-for-111) with 18 runs scored and 12 steals.
The San Leandro, CA native makes a homecoming of sorts when he returns to Modesto, just more than 70 miles east of his hometown.
Kobernus will be joined in the Golden State with Nationals' manager Matt LeCroy and trainer Alan Wood as the Carolina League's top stars square off with the California League on Tuesday, June 21.
