Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Fishkill, NY --- Hudson Valley Renegades 1B Gabby Martinez is getting pretty good at this. For the second time in three days, Martinez delivered a walk-off base hit to give the Renegades a 3-2 win over the visiting Aberdeen IronBirds tonight at Dutchess Stadium. His two-out single scored SS Aneudi Cuevas with the winning run in front of the remains of a sold-out crowd on Rascal Bobblehead Night, sponsored by Modell's Sporting Goods and Mix 97. Reliever Charles Rohr (1-0, 0.00) allowed no runs on one hit and a walk in two innings to earn the win in his first appearance as a Renegade. Chris Osentowski (1-2, 5.29), who got the win in the nightcap of last night's doubleheader, took the loss.

With the win, the 'Gades earned a split of the four-game series with Aberdeen that saw 40 innings of baseball played in the span of three days.

Cuevas led off the bottom of the 12th with a single to left and was sacrificed over to second base by 3B Kris Dufner. Two batters later, Martinez drove Osentowski's first pitch into right field to end the game. Martinez, who entered the game as a pinch hitter for CF Nate Dion in the sixth inning, finished one for four with an RBI. 2B Jason St. Clair, who left the game in the 10th inning after being hit in the elbow by a pitch, and C John Jaso were the only 'Gades to hit safely twice. 1B/LF Josh Kendrick put a charge into the crowd in the fifth stanza with his first home run of the season, a bomb over the left-center field fence estimated at over 400 feet. 3B Dennis Wyrick led the IronBirds with two hits and an RBI.

Tonight's game was a strikeout-fest, as the two teams combined to whiff 31 times (17 by Aberdeen, 14 by Hudson Valley). Renegades starter Aaron Gangi pitched six shutout innings, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out seven and lowering his earned run average to 1.55. Aberdeen starter Adam Loewen, the fourth overall pick in the 2002 MLB First-Year Player Draft, allowed no runs and just one hit while striking out six in four innings. He cut his ERA to 1.69 tonight.

The Renegades begin a three-game home and away series with the New Jersey Cardinals tomorrow night at Dutchess Stadium on Survivor Night, sponsored by WRWD. 10 contestants will be competing in a contest based on the hit reality show Survivor to win a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Jarrod Farrell (1-1, 3.95) will take the mound for the Renegades. New Jersey's starter is unknown at press time. First pitch is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
