Auburn Doubledays News Release
AUBURN, NY - The cry of the rally monkey is alive and well in Auburn as for the second straight night, the Auburn Doubledays came from behind in the late innings to defeat the Jamestown Jammers 5-2. Auburn trailed 2-0 coming into the eighth inning and would score five unanswered runs to earn their 22nd victory of the year. Auburn remains in first place of the Pinckney Division and is tied with Brooklyn for the best record in the New York-Penn League.
With the bases loaded and the score tied at two, Doubledays first basemen Vito Chiaravalloti drove a high fly ball into short right field. Among three Jammers in the vicinity, none would make the catch as the ball fell between them allowing two runs to score giving the Doubledays the lead for good. Chiaravalloti ended the evening 1-for-2 with two RBI.
The first two Auburn runs in the inning came via Jamestown reliever Zach McCormack (0-1) who walked in two runs with the bases loaded before the Chiaravalloti two-run RBI single. Another Doubledays run would score the same inning as McCormack uncorked a wild pitch past catcher Ryan Blake and Christian Snavely sprinted in from third. All in all, McCormack faced five batters, giving up three runs and walking four, not recording a single out.
Auburn reliever Davis Romero (3-0) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to record his third win of the season. Shaun Marcum earned his first professional save notching all three outs in the ninth inning. Neither starting pitcher figured in the final decision. In his first professional start, Auburn's Justin James pitched three innings giving up one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Florida Marlins 2003 second round pick Logan Kensing was even more impressive going six shutout innings scattering five hits with four strikeouts.
Jamestown drew first blood in the top of the second. With Ryan Bear on third, Ryan Blake flew out to right field, allowing Bear to score giving Jamestown a 1-0 lead. The Jammers increased the lead to 2-0 on an RBI single by Bear, driving in Lee Mitchell. Bear led Jamestown offensively going 2-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI. The Doubledays and Jammers finish off a three-game series tomorrow night at Falcon Park on "Doubleday Dollar Thursday" at 7:05 PM. All General Admission tickets, Budweiser drafts, Hoffman Hot Dogs and Coca-cola products are $1 each.
